Procedure for Revealing Contact Information for Domain Names

Legal Context

In compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Whois details of domain name holders are no longer visible in our Whois database.

However, as a registrar accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Hosteur is contractually obligated to permit third parties to request access to non-public registration information. This obligation stems from the "Temporary Specification for gTLD Registration Data," implemented on May 17, 2018, as outlined in ICANN Board Resolutions 2018.05.17.01 and 2018.05.17.09.

In practical terms, third parties can seek the disclosure of contact information for a domain name by demonstrating a legitimate interest.

How to Submit a Request for Disclosure of Contact Information for a Domain Name?

Requests must be exclusively sent to the following address:

Disclosure requests must be sent solely to the following address:

In adherence to the principle of minimization, only the specifically requested information will be provided.

It is crucial to note that only gTLDs are subject to these disclosure requests. The rules applicable to ccTLDs vary based on the relevant national registries.

Hosteur promptly reviews your request based on the provided justifications, which must be in either French or English.

Hosteur retains the right to assess the content of the request and make a decision regarding its follow-up. Various criteria, including the concerned domain name, its potential use, the content it may relate to, or the number of disclosure requests received, are considered in evaluating the request's relevance.

Obligations of the Applicant:

If Hosteur approves the disclosure request, it is essential to acknowledge that the data provided to the applicant is of a personal nature. Consequently, this information will be shared within a strictly confidential framework. The applicant commits to utilizing this information solely for the purposes stated in their request and refraining from disclosing it to third parties.
